Sporades islands: Skiathos- Volos base

Sporades islands are situated just above the island of Evoia, in the Northwest Aegean Sea, close to Thessaly. They consist of 24 islands, such as Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros, Kyra Panagia and others. Greece has many “hidden gems” and this island complex is certainly one of them. Sporades are easily reached from Volos Port and the distance in between them can be considered relatively small, making them an ideal destination even for beginners. The winds can vary from calm to a bit stronger, however due to the proximity of the islands, sailors can easily find shelter and still not feel like they are losing time from their vacations.

Starting from Volos sailors have the chance to explore Volos and the area nearby prior or after their sailing trip, enjoy a glass of ouzo in the port and try the local cuisine, walk around the city, or make a day trip to Pelion. Pagasetic gulf presents many small bays and beaches, which can be explored on the first or the last day of a sailing trip. In Sporades someone can find countless picturesque sceneries, dive into the waters of the Aegean Sea, and maybe “live” like in the “Mamma Mia” movie (which was shot in Skiathos and Skopelos). Last but not least, the island of Evoia should not be disregarded, since its small fishing villages and virgin beaches look like they came out of the pages of an old book, in an echo of simpler times.

 Skiathos port

 The marina of Skiathos is surrounded by traditional taverns, quality restaurants, coffee shops and bars.

Also there are supermarkets and grocery stores within a walkable distance from the marina.

The airport of Skiathos is located at a 5 min. drive from the port.

Remember, there are no mooring lines in the marina so you will have to use your anchor.
